Twig: A Unique Collection of Stools and Tables Inspired by Nature

Organic Design Meets Functionality

The Twig collection draws inspiration from the interior of rural houses, which have evolved over time to combine functionality and aesthetics from different regions. The centerpiece of these houses is the dining area, which is traditionally located in the middle. To reflect this, the designers decided to create round seats and table tops for the Twig collection.

What sets Twig apart is its unique design. The legs of the stools and tables resemble the roots and stem of a tree, with the tree crown transformed into a seat. The asymmetry of the design is achieved through varying heights where the legs take a loop to change direction and then come back again. This asymmetry not only adds visual interest but also enhances functionality.

The Twig collection is made from 30mm thick birch plywood, with finishes including opaque transparent lacquer and colored water-based stains. The elements are routed and easily assembled using wood glue and wood triples. The result is a sturdy and harmonious design that showcases the beauty of natural materials.

The Twig collection includes the Twig stool, measuring 370mm x 370mm x 474mm, the Twig bar stool, measuring 370mm x 370mm x 730mm, and the Twig table, measuring 800mm x 800mm x 710mm. These dimensions make the collection versatile and suitable for various spaces.

Twig objects are not only visually appealing but also highly functional. The stools and table act like any other similar products, but the asymmetry of the design adds a unique aesthetic touch. In the case of the bar stool, the loops of the legs also serve as supports for the feet, allowing users to adjust the height according to their preference.

The Twig collection was developed by 201 Design Studio in Bucharest between June and September 2012. It has been exhibited at various prestigious events, including S.I.M., Design Romanesc de Produs exhibitions, Interiors UK - NEC Birmingham Design Fair, Romanian Design Week, and "Romanian Contemporary Design" in Brussels.

The Twig collection has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2014, which honors well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The collection's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics contribute to a better world.
